This online self-assessment page helps you determine which P.B.E.S™ grade of the Pop Piano Improvisation Junior course your child is best suited for. Please note that all new students may only begin at Grade 1, 2, or 3. Progression to higher grades is granted only through advancement from the previous level, at the discretion of the assigned instructor based on the student’s development and performance. If you happen to register for the wrong level, your assigned instructor will assess and adjust your placement—either upgrading or downgrading you to the appropriate level—during your first lesson.

Is your child currently in the school brass or symphony band?

How long has your child been playing the piano for? Approximately?

Does your child has any knowledge of music alphabets such as C, D, E, F, G?

Does your child has any knowledge of note values such as 1 beat, 2 beat, quavers, semi-quavers?

Does your child has any knowledge of basic chords like C chord, F chord, G chord?

Is your child able to play a very basic single note melody with one hand on the piano?

Is your child able to play with two hands on the piano comfortably?

Is your child able to sight-read basic music notations?

Is your child able to play by ear using just one hand without chords?

Is your child able to improvise a piece of song on the piano comfortably?
